It is a crime to dump litter from the booked motor vehicle in any amount on any highway, road or street. If you throw litter up to 15 pounds onto roadways, you can be fined $100. If you throw more than 15 pounds of litter, you can be charged with a first- degree misdemeanor, fined up to $1,000, and receive 3 points on your driving record. The court may also require you to pick up litter along roadways.

• Make sure any trash you have in your vehicle doesn’t blow out and become litter.
• No littering! Take your food wrappings, drink containers, newspapers and other potential litter home with you and dispose of it in your own trash or recycling carts,
or use one of the 96-gallon bins provided in the city’s streets and parks.
• Don’t drop anything on the ground, including cigarette butts. Just don’t.
• Do not throw trash out of your window! Keep a litterbag in your car and dispose of your trash properly once at your destination.
• Don’t toss anything out of the window of your vehicle, even apple cores and banana peels. (A banana peel can take up to two years to biodegrade.)
• Keep your yard clean and free of things that can blow into the street and become litter. You are responsible
for any litter or debris that's in stormwater pipes or a stream in your yard.
• When you visit a park, remember to take out what you bring in. Keep trash and recyclables in a bag or backpack until you can put them in a litter basket.
• Recycle! Recycle! Recycle! Talk to your family and friends about recycling to reduce the amount of litter you throw away.
• At place to stay, make sure garbage and recycling bags are tied securely so that loose papers and other items can't fall out and become litter.
• Pick up after yourself. Encourage others to do the same.
• Educate children about the importance of disposing of trash properly.
• Participate in community cleanup events, like our stream cleanups that are held in the spring and fall.
• Properly dispose of bulky household waste items.
